The war in South Sudan began in murky circumstances in mid-December, when tribal factions within the country’s army, the SPLA, began fighting each other in the center of the capital, Juba. The SPLA quickly fractured into two camps: an insurgency drawn from members of former vice president Riek Machar’s Nuer tribe and troops who remained loyal to President Salva Kiir, of the Dinka tribe. Both sides have been accused of committing gross human rights abuses during the conflict. VICE News arrived in Juba and found the army desperate to dispel rumors that rebels were advancing on the capital. Soldiers were keen to take our correspondents on a trip with them into the bush to recapture the strategic city of Bor from the rebels… only the raid didn’t turn out quite as they had expected.

  1. Man this journalist is instigating! "The soldier was watching us". Of course protecting your unappreciative ass! And why do u want to see where the bodies are buried? What good is that!? Smh just trying to start bullshit. Get out of Africa and mins your business!

  2. I would like a longer, less edited version of this. It would not be good narrative or journalism (this documentary is excellent quality journalism. The story was so good and so compelling while being critical and realistic.), but still I would like to see what it was like during the firefights and what people were doing and saying. It would be a good historical record,

  3. You don’t know that you’ve fucked up until that bullet hits you. No more second thoughts

  4. Cowards. The ana and Afghan police used to do the same shit to us when the talibs would start poppin off. Just fuckin bolt. We didn’t mind tho, they usually just got in the way of my Marines and I or were too doped out to even fight.

  5. Only time i see someone with an average height is when they sit down . Everyone in this video probably 6ft+

  6. What a shit show! It’s amazing that any soldiers from either side ever get shot, considering the complete unorganized chaos in their ranks!
    Toyota hilux+20 men+ speed = scattered Africans&overturned truck
    lol πŸ˜‚

  7. Sub Saharan Africans are a different type of human. They can’t handle power or anything close to the 1st world when they have access to the western medicine even crude western medicine birth rates rose and now they just turn into a disgusting cesspit of human despair, when they didn’t have white or asian help their tribes were small enough to be managed but now they are out of control like a weed or vine it just grows but doesn’t evolve

  8. How in the hell is a general saying that his military government military by the way is organized yet he has no medics in the field? A lot of these governments are sponsored and financed by the UN United States France all of these nations which Daniel was telling you that fly a banner of an eagle….

  9. 22:15 watching the South Sudan army is like watching the americans fight in battle. A bunch of chickens with their heads cut off.

  10. Looks to me like the rebels r a little more than just dumb civilian’s had them boys in the run. All there men n equipment ain’t shitbud they don’t know how to use it. Undisciplined and untrained they wouldn’t last ten minutes with a American platoon hunting them with airstrikes for good measure

  11. Killing your own brother shame on you South Sudan πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡Έ you guys could sat around the table and resolve this conflict wake up Africa !!

  12. Crazy these guys should be staying in teams of like 5-8 or something having each other’s backs and moving in like that. Sending one team at a time? I don’t know how to strategize for war but running around like that seems so out of control . RIP to the soldiers who lost their lives. They are all brave men .

  13. 2009 to 2012 i was in juba..met maj. gen. james even his family specially his daughter who is really a nice person..hoping for peace in juba

  14. These guys probably regretted sending you guys to the front lines since how embarrassing that was for South Sudan.

  15. What I can’t understand is they’re all AFRICANS but are from different tribes but you would think after decades of suffering they would just come together instead of just killing their own people and starving them . It’s just dumb and their military is corrupt.

  16. WOW.. Army General KIA with foot soldiers..!!
no artillery, no air support. just a handful of jokers..
    is this really an army..
