Burkina Faso: Protests against president

Violent clashes broke out in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou after a second day of protests denouncing the president’s plan to seek re-election.

The political crisis spilled out onto the streets in a campaign of civil disobedience called by the opposition.

Blaise Compaore, who came to power in a coup in 1987 and has won four presidental elections since then, aims to amend the constitution so that he can run for office for another three terms.

  1. All African countries should be ready to make sure no president stays in power for more than two terms, not even the party as far as, Africa is concerned, I’m very positive of the fact that they are sick and tired of him, 27 years is enough.

  2. My sister lives in Ouagadougou. 90% of the protesters are peaceful but apparently violence is much more interesting for the media.
