Ivory Coast's struggle with rising food prices

REPORT : In this market in Yopougon, it’s not just consumers who are angry. The shopkeeper has never seen prices surge like this before. The government is trying to help but it’s not clear how succesful they will be.

  1. Whats the problem? If I was a store owner there I would LOVE this! Now with the high prices everywhere, I get to make more profit and more MONEY!! 🙂

    i love it

  2. @tatomuck18 you are wrong—-the store owner is just a middle man and his margins are getting decimated—prices are going up so fast he can’t set a budget

  3. @stonerj0e the 2008 food price rise was a short term (6-8 month)spike—- the 2011-14 price increases are going to stay for a very long time

  4. It is time to re-imagine society to use only renewable resources for power, and to grow with respect for the land and no chemicals. The prices will likely continue to rise. What would YOU do if you could not afford to eat?

  5. @tatomuck18 Sorry, you don’t seem to understand. He raises his prices because he is being charged more for the products. That doesn’t really change his profit margin.
