Rwanda – DRC agree to strengthen economic cooperation

Rwanda, President Paul Kagame and his Democratic Republic of Congo counterpart, Joseph Kabila have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on trade and security, after a meeting at the Rwandan border district of Rubavu. Cooperation will be bolstered in energy generation, cross-border trade, and security. Rwanda recently launched a 26-megawatts methane power plant. The cooperation would allow for an increase in the energy generated from extracting the gas from the shared waters of lake Kivu. Rwanda’s exports to the DRC represent the biggest share of her informal exports.
